Eligiblity Requirements |
To be eligible for membership, the candidate must be a member of the sophomore, junior, or senior class and must have been in attendance at Northwest the equivalent of one semester. Selection Process |
To fulfill the scholarship requirement, candidates must have a cumulative scholastic average of 89%. While 89% overall is the minimum requirement for admission, a higher average does NOT guarantee membership. Once scholastic eligibility is determined, all faculty members are invited to recommend nominees and comment on the candidate's service, character, and leadership. Five faculty members must nominate a candidate in order for them to continue in the selection process. Those students that have been recommended by at least five faculty members will receive an information sheet to provide additional information, which must be returned by the deadline.
After reviewing the information from the Personal Information Sheet and scoring them based on a rubric written for this purpose, the Faculty Council will vote on prospective members. A majority vote of the Faculty Council will then qualify a student for membership. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Failure to do so could result in dismissal from the organization. It is important to remember that a student does not have a RIGHT to be in the National Honor Society. Membership is an honor bestowed upon a select group of students by the Faculty Council on behalf of the school faculty. |
